However you look at it, this past year was definitely a challenge. In the fishing world, we at least were able to focus on some positive objectives to help out. Despite the low return this year of steelhead, plus the devastating conditions along the river, the Wally Hall Jr. Memorial Steelhead Derby efforts have had amazing results.

As most of you know, we have committed to a huge effort to raise funds and awareness for ongoing habitat restoration projects on the Chilliwack / Vedder River system. The benefit to salmon and steelhead is so important, especially when you consider the climatic realities, escalating costs, and government limitations in today's messed up world.

I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone that has supported us and the Wally Hall Jr. Memorial Steelhead Derby initiatives that generate 10s of thousands of dollars for this great cause. Last year we raised over $33,000 and this year Fred's added a few bucks to be able to write a $30,000 cheque. These funds are leveraged 3 to 5 times in value. This means that hundreds of thousands are going directly back into the river which helps with increased survival and ultimately more returning fish. Thank you to all the steelheaders and supporters for being there this year.

We conducted an online Wrap Up Raffle draw through Facebook on Monday where we gave away some very nice prizes. The in-person Derby Wrap Up Event will be held at the Chilliwack location at noon on Sunday, March 27th. This will include presenting the prizes to the derby leaderboard finalists, awarding hidden fish prizes, distribution of prizes from the Wrap Up Raffle, and a presentation to the Fraser Valley Watershed Society.

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the success of this effort and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday...

Fred
