Conventional wisdom says: Never take a knife to a gunfight. And when you’re tackling big critters like the ones this reel was designed for, then I think that’s really sound advice. The 12 Plus was designed for fish that are notorious for being really hard to handle. GT’s or Tuna, just to name a few, can undo your average gear in a fraction of a second. You will not find a better fish-fighting tool on the market for these situations. Oh yeah, it’s also great for big spey applications. - Protection: Type 2 Anodize

Each Hatch Finatic reel features:
The majority of the drags on the market today incorporate what we call
one to one surface contact. meaning that one surface (metal) is driven
or drawn toward another surface (cork, plastic, carbon fiber, graphite,
etc.). Hatch reels take a completely different approach by
incorporating a stacked disc drag. The discs are made up of a
combination of stainless steel and Rulon®, and positioned in a stacked
configuration.
...
EBS is measured by the surface contact area of one disc times the
number of surfaces it contacts. Each Size reel has it's own unique disc
size
and combination. The size and number of discs determines the EBS in
square inches. More surface area makes for a smoother, more durable
drag and virtually eliminates start up inertia. Heat distibution occurs
over multiple surfaces, rather than one to one contact, thereby
eliminating stick slip problems caused by extreme heat in high-speed
runs.
SEALED MULTI-DISC DRAG CASSETTE... Rulon and stainless steel discs apply even drag pressure and heat
distribution over multiple surfaces water resistant, maintenance-free
and self-lubricating.
FRAME DIMENSION... By adding dimension to the frame, we create a backbone effect
thereby increasing strength, durability, and the virtual elimination of
lateral flex.
MACHINE FINISH AND ANODIZE... We only polish surfaces that come in contact with the line. Then we
apply a type II anodize for a durable finish that holds up in both fresh
and salt water.
MADE IN THE U.S.A.... We take great pride in how and where our reels are made. That's why
all Hatch reels are made in our own manufacturing facility in Vista,
California.
ONE-PIECE MACHINE REEL SEAT... A solid is always stronger than two parts bound together. Also by
eliminating the screws, there is no worry about corrosion or the reel
foot loosening. Ever.
SPOOL NUT... The spool nut on all of our reels is captured within the spool.
Thereby eliminating the worry of losing any parts when removing the
spool.
MACHINE ALUMINUM CRANKS... Cranks incorporate an ergonomic
design for better feel and increased size for a more positive grip.
